Pro-life activists are continuing their presence on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Portland as a large Planned Parenthood building is constructed.
Dozens attended a recent candlelight vigil set on the feast of the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Weekly demonstrations have endured.
Construction is in its 10th month, with the building slated to open in 2010.
On a morning last month, 30 people representing a network of five pro-life groups in Washington and Oregon gathered for a five-hour “Show The Truth” event to give witness to what they described as the horrors of abortion.

The fact is that any group of government bureaucrats that makes decisions affecting life or death is essentially a “death panel.” The work of Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, President Obama’s health policy advisor and the brother of his chief of staff, is particularly disturbing on this score. Dr. Emanuel has written extensively on the topic of rationed health care, describing a “Complete Lives System” for allotting medical care based on “a priority curve on which individuals aged between roughly 15 and 40 years get the most chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get chances that are attenuated.”
On August 12, 2009, 20-plus Show The Truth Washington pro-lifers of all ages came to protest the construction of Planned Parenthood’s new Regional Center on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in the heart of Portland’s black community. The purpose of the graphic photos of aborted preborn children was to raise awareness to those who have doubts of what abortion is, the legal taking of the life of a baby with recognizable limbs, fingers, and toes. Not a blob of tissue.

Reporter James Mayer of the Oregonian wrote a piece dated August 27, 2009 titled , ‘Planned Parenthood site drawing protests’ . (From that title, it appears that protests are a new occurrence yet pro-lifers have been there since February 2007.)
Worse is Mayer’s doubt that the photographs are really of aborted babies! He writes,
” . . . protesters gathered across Beech Street holding posters depicting what they said were aborted fetuses . . .” Emphasis added.
Your editor called Mr. Mayer and informed him of the 7-year undercover photography work of actual abortion by the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, among others.
In the same article, Mayer quotes LIZ DELAPOER, Marketing Director for Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette as claiming,
“No decision has been made about whether the site will offer abortion services, spokeswoman Liz Delapoer said.”
That is a flat-out, bald-faced lie. In a videotaped interview which you can watch online at one of my blogs, Delapoer confirms that Planned Parenthood WILL OFFER ABORTIONS.
