A mother convicted of killing her one-month-old baby and burying him in a public park in Baltimore has been convicted and sentenced to counseling at Planned Parenthood. That’s right, counseling at Planned Parenthood.

Twenty-nine-year-old Lakesha Haynie walked free after 10 months in jail, having been convicted of first degree murder in the death of her tiny, defenseless son, who was found with a fractured skull in a shallow grave in Druid Hill Park.

In addition to being indoctrinated by counseling from the entity that kills more tiny children than any other organization in the nation, she will serve five years’ probation and not be allowed to have contact with children under six years of age.

With a sentence like that one can only imagine what the judge who sentenced her must have been thinking: “Send her to Planned Parenthood so she can learn how to kill the next baby before it is born.” Although considering the recent revelation that at a Philadelphia abortion mill the abortionist and his staff were routinely delivering live babies and snipping their spinal cords with scissors to kill them, it’s not a sure thing that abortionists will kill the children before they are born.

There was no mention of helping this deranged mother with mental health care, parenting or anger management classes.

When coherent people think of preventing child murder, the last place they think about is Planned Parenthood. It is a travesty of justice of tremendous proportion when Planned Parenthood is utilized as a rehabilitative resource for a woman who has murdered her infant son.

A 2007 report from Planned Parenthood’s Guttmacher Institute reveals the urgency of stopping Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood.

It shows that Title X paid 15% of “family planning” cost in 2001, while Medicaid provided 61%. The 2001 total of public funding for “family planning” was $1.3 billion. In 2001, the report says, Medicaid provided 6 out of 10 of all public dollars spent on family planning.

While Planned Parenthood emphasizes that Title X funds and Medicaid cannot be used for abortion, the Guttmacher Institute in this 2007 report reveals some of the hidden truths behind the Medicaid restriction facade.

Medicaid is a joint program of federal and state governments. “[S]tates ‘are free to determine the specific services and supplies which will be covered as Medicaid family planning services’ within … broad parameters,” the report says.

It then reveals in a footnote:  “Under CMS [Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services] policy, abortion ‘may not be claimed as a family planning service’ under any circumstances. However, federal law allows abortion to be covered under Medicaid when the woman’s life would be endangered if the pregnancy were carried to term and in cases of rape or incest; states may obtain reimbursement for these procedures under their regular federal reimbursement rates, rather than the special 90% family planning rate. Furthermore, individual states remain free to use their own funds to pay for other ‘medically necessary’ abortions for Medicaid beneficiaries, and 17 do so as of May 2007.” (Emphasis added.)

In fact, another recent Guttmacher report indicates that 20% of Medicaid recipients report having used Medicaid to pay for abortions.

Members of the newly seated congress have shown support for defunding Planned Parenthood, and at the rally preceding the March for Life, one of the members of Congress implored pro-lifers to call their representatives and reinforce the cry for defunding Planned Parenthood.

Let your elected officials know today that not only do we need to cut all Title X and other program funding to Planned Parenthood without exceptions, we must stop Medicaid reimbursement for “family planning” as well.
